B&O Mikado Class No. 5050 departs Hyattsville, MD with a passenger train toward Union Station during the winter of 1948. Note the Capital Transit Branchville trolely line on the left and the wye for the Anacostia Branch on the right.
Most people think of the B&O services ending at Union Station in Washngton, D.C., but the B&O had trackage rights to Potomac Yard in Alexandria. This view was in Southwest Washington at the Washington Channel at 14th St as freights were toaken to Potomac Yard. Civil War Trackage
This is the freight yard of the B&O in Washington, D.C. known as Eckington Yard.  During 1949 Inaugural the yard was converted to parking for Pullman passenger cars for use as hotel space.

Historic B&O Railroad Marker at Relay, MD
This historic viaduct across the Patuxent River was completed by the B&O railroad in 1835 and was supposed to last just ten years. It is still in service today carrying heavy freight and passenger trains.  Circa 1954 photo from Lee Rogers Collection.
